SGI Featured Friend: Montana Association of Conservation Districts
July 2, 2014
The Montana Association of Conservation Districts represents Montana’s 58 conservation districts that take locally led and voluntary approaches to conserve natural resources. Conservation districts are local units of government under state law. In Montana and across the country, the 3,000 districts help landowners with technical and financial resources to put conservation practices on the ground.
MACD uses its connections and experience to run a collaborative mini-grants program that delivers on-the-ground habitat improvements for sage grouse that cross public and private borders.
The Sage Grouse Initiative is a partnership-based, science-driven effort that uses voluntary incentives to proactively conserve America’s western rangelands, wildlife, and rural way of life. This initiative is part of Working Lands For Wildlife, which is led by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service.
