Our Amazing Grasslands Video – The Conner Ranch

New Video Highlights the Conner Ranch in South Dakota

As part of a broad effort to communicate the importance of South Dakota’s vast grasslands to a wide audience, the South Dakota Grasslands Coalition has been producing a series of videos that feature South Dakota farmers and ranchers and their management practices.

The Coalition explains the effort on their website:

The “Our Amazing South Dakota Grasslands” campaign was created in 2018 with the goal of better communicating the importance and value of grasslands and soil resources throughout the state. This campaign strives to better show what South Dakota farmers and ranchers are doing to protect and enhance these resources. Each video was created utilizing footage from interviews with South Dakota farmers and ranchers and showcases footage of their farming and ranching operations. ~South Dakota Grasslands Coalition

This March, the Coalition released its latest video featuring Dan and Cindi Conner and their ranch near Belle Fourche, South Dakota. The Conners have ranched this land since the late 1970s and with support from the Sage Grouse Initiative and other groups, they have implemented conservation practices that benefit both sage grouse and their livestock.

Dan has done a lot and in combination with his grazing management, has really made this ranch great for Sage Grouse habitat… he’s really been able to pull it all together and it’s a testament to a strong work ethic and strong land ethic. ~ Mitch Faulkner, Rangeland Management Specialist, NRCS
